Fuel Saver Quinoa

Fuel Saver Quinoa

  • ½ cup quinoa
  • 1 cup water

Add the quinoa and water to a small cooking pot (a 1 to 1.7 Liter works well). Add a pinch of salt if desired.

Bring to a boil and let boil for 5 minutes – keep the pot’s lid on mostly, and stir periodically. Lower the flame if needed.

Take off the stove, cover tightly and insulate – either with a pot cozy or what you have on hand. Let sit for 15 minutes without disturbing.

Fluff up and enjoy!

Serves 1.

It is VERY important you buy a brand of quinoa that is pre-washed. Most US sold brands are, but do look. If it doesn’t say it is, pass on it!
While this recipe might seem simple an often asked question is “Can I cook quinoa on the trail without dehydrating?”. It works well but you do need to keep a close eye on it while it boils.
For info on dehydrating quinoa see here: http://www.trailcooking.com/dehydrating101/pasta-grains
Use this as a base and add whatever you crave: spices, herbs, lower sodium bouillon, etc.
