Something new for the gorp bag!
| 3 | c | unsalted pecan halves |
| 1⁄2 | c | maple syrup |
| 1 | t | ground cinnamon |
| 1⁄4 | t | ground ginger |
| 1⁄4 | t | ground cloves |
| 1⁄4 | t | ground nutmeg |
| 1⁄4 | t | ground cardamom |
For those who like a little salt, add a few shakes of kosher or sea salt when coating with maple syrup - or when the hot nuts come out of the oven.
Buy your nuts at Costco or similar to save money. Store the big bags in a tightly sealed container in your refrigerator or freezer till time to spice them up!
Preheat your oven to 350. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a large bowl mix the maple syrup and spices together. Add in the pecans and stir until well coated. Spread the pecans on the prepared pan in a single layer. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until toasted and most of the syrup is absorbed.
Let cool, then shake the nuts off of the paper. Store in a tightly sealed freezer bag till trail time - and use up within a couple weeks.
